The customer had a problem with the table on his surface grinder trying to stick while in slow feed. After removing the table we found the cast iron way surfaces to be slick due to wear and lack of lubrication. We scraped the way surfaces and added back the oil flaking to help provide oil retention. We flushed out the oil lines to allow for correct lubrication flow. The pictures show the finished product before reinstalling.
The customer has a very large Russian Bear lathe. With its 12’ diameter chuck it can accommodate parts larger than most can imagine. However, no matter the size, all machines can have breakdowns. As you can see from the pictures, the spindle bearings failed, and the machine had to come apart. We removed the head and replaced the bearings. After reinstalling the head we set the bearings to the correct tolerance.
