Machine Tool Rebuilding

This 45’ LeBlond Lathe was in need of a complete rebuild. As you can see from the picture progress the amount of work that was required. After the machine was shipped back, we aligned and set it up for the customer. An interesting note, even as large as this machine is, it is still small in comparison to the customer’s other equipment.

The customer had us modify a large lathe that they cut into two parts. They were making a lathe that could be used in the field for machining steam rotors during power plant shut downs. We manufactured base plates and mounted the headstock and tailstock. We supplied and installed a 100 horsepower motor and variable speed drive.

The customer had us refurbish a Brown & Sharp #2 OD Grinder. As you can see from the pictures, there was a lot of time and detail put into this project.

The bed on this extremely large lathe was nearly crushed after an accident. This section of the bed was stitched back together. We machined and removed the damaged way surfaces. From there we manufactured new cast iron inserts and installed. These pictures show how the repair has held up nearly 20 years later.

The customer requested if we could manufacture a new spindle for their specialty grinder. We made measurements from the damaged original and made with some improved modifications.
